Affiliate programs these days are mind boggling. There are so many to choose from in almost any niche.
Choosing the right one isn’t as easy as you might have though it was. There are so many things to consider.
What affiliate program pays the most? What affiliate program is easiest to promote? What affiliate program has the better offers?
I could go on and on with these questions, but I’m pretty sure you’re here for answers.
These are things to take into consideration when choosing an affiliate program.
How Long Will You Earn Commission?
This is a good point to look into when choosing an affiliate program. If you’re going to earn a one time commission, that’s fine and all, but what if you could earn commission for the life of your referral. These can be the difference between quick cash and residual income.
Say a customer you refer pays a monthly subscription and you earn 50% of that first month. And let’s say that the price is $10.00 a month. Oh look isn’t that nice you earn $5.00. Your affiliate takes the other $5.00, but then continues to earn $10.00 a month for every month there after.
On the other hand you have another affiliate that also has a $10.00/month subscription plan, but offers you only 10%, but every month for the life of the subscription. It takes you 5 months to earn as much as the first affiliate, but you can earn much more in the long run. Be careful though, make sure that the service is good enough that will allow a customer to stay long enough for it to be worth while.
Are There Any Incentives?
Some affiliate programs provide incentives. Be on the lookout for these especially. What kinds of incentives you might ask? How about getting paid a bonus for getting a certain amount of referrals within a time period. Or how about a competitive incentive like getting the most sales. These kinds of incentives makes the program more interesting, if you’re more interested you’re more likely to work harder.
How Are Others Doing With The Program?
Good affiliate programs can boast about how well other’s are doing. Learn how often leads or clicks usually convert. Learn how much others are making with the program. Just be sure to get all of the stats. Sure maybe someone is making $400.00 a month with their program, but did they also tell you that the $400.00 came from 20,000 leads and only 10 sales? If you aren’t bringing that kind of traffic then the program probably isn’t worth your time.
Are You Paid For Leads As Well As Sales?
This ensures a little cushion in case the customer isn’t happy with the product as they thought they were. know that leads aren’t the same as clicks. Leads mean that the customer submitted some kind of information to show that they actually had interest in the product. You might only get $0.25 for a lead, but that is at least enough for it to be worth your time.
So What Affiliate Programs Should I Use?
It is up to you to decide which of these points are important to you. Mix and match them or try to find programs with all of the qualities above (which might prove difficult). Begin joining as many affiliate marketing networks as you can handle. Joining too many will spread your revenue over too many accounts, too few might make it difficult to find good programs to join.
Also know that some companies have in house affiliate marketing programs that aren’t on any networks. You will be responsible for seeking these out or contacting companies to find out about them.
