While it’s true that social media can be a great promotion tool to get you more subscribers, readers, and customers, it’s also an easy way to drain away hours of your time.
I’m not saying this to tell you to totally abandon social media as a means of promotion, but to just optimize your time better. Do you remember the last time you sat down to promote via social media? Were you able to accomplish everything in 10 minutes or less? Doubtful. If you did then congratulations, maybe you don’t need to read this.
For those of you still wasting precious time that could be spent on other tasks, let’s look at what you’re wasting time doing.
Being Distracted. It’s very easy to get side tracked by what’s going on and deviate from the task at hand. Know your purpose. Do what NEEDS to be done.
Doing Things That You Can Automate. A lot of the tedious tasks you do can be automated. For example, I love BufferApp. BufferApp allows you to schedule tweets on Twitter and Facebook posts. There are also blog plugins that will automatically post your new articles as they are published.
Not Aggregating Social Media Streams Into One Place. There are several social media apps and websites that allow you to view Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus in one place. HootSuite is a good choice. You can go completely free or with the monthly subscription for more power.
You Aren’t Scheduling Time For It. It’s so much easier to manage your social media if you set aside time for it. Get into the habit of doing what you can in the time given. Possibly twice a day, if necessary.
